This experimental course consists of a concrete, day-to-day application of the dynamics of large-scale weather systems.
Rich of a pointed introduction and with the assistance of suites of numerical weather prediction systems, students will learn to elaborate a weather prediction and to cope with uncertainties of weather (probabilistic) prediction models.
Aspects of the «current weather» can be discussed from the following stand points:
With this twofold basis, students will be expected to perform a case study of a specific weather event which includes the discussion of surface as well as upper-level charts, profiles and cross-sections, radiosondes and satellite products, etc. Additionally, the students will draw surface weather charts, forecast short to middle range weather evolution and chair the weather discussion.
The course will take place once a week on Friday 10:00 to 12:00 am in the room CHN E42.
