Climate history and paleoclimatology

The module Climate history and palaeoclimatology adds a historical dimension to the master in atmospheric and climate science. It can be combined with any other module offered in the climate and atmosphere master. The courses paleoceanography and biogeochemical cycles and climate history and paleoclimatology are recommended for this module. The module introduces methods and approaches in paleoclimatology. The students will have an understanding of the evolution of climate and its majord forcing factors through geological time. They will be familiar with the use of most common geochemical climate "proxies" and be able to evaluate the quality of marine and terrestrial sedimentary paleoclimate archives. |
Objectives
The student will be able to identify major forcing and response mechanisms and evaluate rates of change in climates of geological past.
