We would like to give you some more information on the activities of WG 1 and we try to present here the most recent, but not always complete and perfect material.

All members of WG 1 are welcome so send their contributions to this page.

Tasks and people
During the first working group meetings the responsibilities for different aspects of the urban wind Field (UWF) were distributed among the participants according to the following list:

Roughness sublayer and Urban Canopy: Mathias Rotach (MR), Petra Kastner-Klein (PK), Doug Middleton (DM),

Urban boundary layer: Zbynek Janour (ZJ), Cecilia Soriano (CS), Ekaterina Batchvarova (EB)

Rural - urban transition: Doug Middleton (DM), Ruwim Berkowicz (RB), Cecilia Soriano (CS), Viktor Prior (VP)

Spatial inhomogeneity: Christian Sacre (ChS)

Urban meteorological network: Viktor Prior (VP)

Material

During the first working group meeting in June 1999 a list of theories relevant to the urban wind field was collected. The members of WG 1 are going to check the theories against measurement data.

A text describing the Estimation of the wind speed at an 'urban reference height' from an observation at some other height was prepared by Mathias Rotach.

Contribution of WG1 at the workshop of COST 715 WG4 in Prague, 15/16th of June 2000, on the subject Wind input data for urban dispersion modelling.

Data sets

Furthermore a list of studies was identified, which possibly contribute to the tasks of WG1.

Nevertheless we are still looking for information regarding the listed or additional data sets from full-scale or laboratory (wind-tunnels) experiments which give information to one of the above mentioned (see Tasks and People) aspects of the UWF.

fill in a form which was prepared for the collection of wind-tunnel data sets. It is available as Adobe Acrobat (pdf) file.

Future actvities

The third working group meeting is now planned for December, 2000 in London, UK
