In Switzerland, road conditions often differ regionally and with the topographical height of the road. Especially during the winter season, the condition of the road surface can be very critical because of snowfall, drifting snow, formation of hoar frost, freezing ainwater or freezing dew. To investigate road weather forecasts, a combination of different measuring systems like weather radar, satellites and road surface measurements is intended. In cooperation with MeteoRadar and the road inspection office of the canton of Lucerne one special aim is to predict cloud cover as a key parameter in road weather forecast.
