Climate change and temperature extremes

Dr. Erich M. Fischer

Socio-economic and ecological impacts of changes in frequency and intensity of temperature extremes reach far beyond effects of mean warming. This project assesses changes in frequency and intensity of temperature extremes in recent decades based on observational data and uses numerical climate models to improve our understanding on the physical mechanisms underlying such extremes. Regional and global climate multi-model ensembles are used to produce probabilistic scenarios of high-impact temperature extremes in the 21st century.
