Socializing, sports, cooking, eating and sleeping are surely my favorite free-time activites, and whenever possible I do these things outdoors: climbing mountains in the Swiss alps, hiking in a national park or camping together with my girlfriend Saskia in a remote corner of this planet. Outdoor photography is one of my hobbies. please feel free to get insight in some of the places where I have been:

Saskia and I spent three weeks hiking in the area of Kangerlussuaq, Narsaq and Qaqortoq (southwestern Greenland). Impressive landscapes, ice bergs, sunsets and fresh mushrooms compensate for heavy winds, soaked boots and nasty bushes. Not only had we good wine in our backpacks but also a cozy and waterproof tent and lots of cheese to sustain rainy days on this adventurous treck!

During July 2005 I visited Saskia and her field campaign at the Summit research station on the Greenland ice cap. The photo album gives an insight into daily life on 3200m a.s.l.: 24 hour-per-day research activity under the arctic midnight sun, tasty food from the wonderful camp cooks and hard work of building the 50m high ETH micromet tower.

In May 2005 my girlfriend Saskia and I spent a weekend in Engelberg, climbing the "Klettersteige" Brunni and Fürenalp. The most important things in life are simple things: stinky cheese, a nice place in the mountains and nice company! (plus a tent which is water proof during a thunderstorm and a good photo camera, ok I will stop now ...)

Indonesia is a wonderful country for travelling. I mostly enjoyed food, people and culture and climbed several of the volcanoes on Java, Bali and Lombok. Monkeys are nice too, except when they want your sandwich.

Northern Sweden offers remote landscapes in wintertime. During April 2003 we skied the Kungsleden trail from Abisko to Vakkotavare using sledges and randonnée touring skis. Ice fishing is not as simple as it looks!

During my regular visits to Washington D.C. I enjoy the company of my friends at NASA. Apart from some fairly questionable political decisions originating this city, it also hosts numerous attractive monuments and museums. A night hike around the mall.

On our bike tour in Iceland we visited thermal springs, volcanoes, sheep farms, geysers, waterfalls. Especially the two latter things were a good justification for carrying the heavy photography equipment: never leave from home without a tripod!

A two week long hike through southern Sweden during spring 2000 took me from Stockholm to Gotenborg. The rose garden in Gotenborg offers a variety of species, some are shown here.

A long time ago, far away in a distant galaxy: back in 1997 I collaborated with my friends Muff and Higgins in night - long creative sessions, integrating their skills in video feedback looping with my digital image processing equipment. (and yes, there was red wine in our studio!)

Visiting confluence points (intersections of integer degrees latitude/longitude) by use of a GPS receiver is not as crazy as you may think. When you've done one, you will probably look out for another one on your next travel.
