A 3-yr PhD position is open at the Institute of Geography of the University of Bern in the area of historical climate data homogenization. The position includes the following tasks

Requirements are an MSc degree (or equivalent) in environmental sciences, meteorology, atmospheric physics, or statistics. We expect a strong background in statistics and interest in meteorological instruments and science history. Start of the position is in fall 2009. The PhD position is embedded in COST Action "HOME" (ES0601: Advances in homogenization methods of climate series: an integrated approach) and is performed in a collaboration between the University of Bern and ETH Zurich, enrollment is at University of Bern (see Graduate School for Climate Sciences, Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research, http://www.climatestudies.unibe.ch).
