3D Radar Reflectivity
In spare minutes I combined some IDL object graphic routines with volume scans of the MeteoSwiss Albis radar. The outcome is the following GIF animation of storm cells from the 16 July 2003 over the Swiss plateau. The topography (250 x 250 x 1 m resolution, Rimini dataset) is a polygon object. Over that lies another polygon object for the rivers and lakes (IDL geography). The cloud is composed of voxels for each reflectivity pixel, where the reflectivity value determines the color and the opacity. Hail cells are red and completely opaque. |
