Climate Change and Heavy Precipitation in the European Alps

Future changes in heavy precipitation are expected to have major socio-economic impacts. Focussing on the European Alps, we (1) assess the ability of state-of-the art regional climate models to reproduce observed heavy precipitation amounts and (2) investigate RCM-simulated future changes of heavy precipitation characteristics (return levels, high quantiles, etc.). This work is partly integrated into the (now completed) ENSEMBLES project.
